Conte Conquers City!!!

Yesterday was an eventful evening as  many important sports events were lined up and were set to raise the adrenaline levels of people.We had the IPL opener between SRH vs RCB which was easily won by the Defending Champions SRH.This was not what Football Follower’s were looking forward to but they were all getting into the zone for a Blood-Quenching Rivalry between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.With Bad blood being drawn between both the teams in the last 2 encounters all football fans knew that they in for another Thrill Ride.

Both the teams knew that they had to win this game in order to have a say in the Premier League title Race.Chelsea had to win this one in order to shake off a Horrendous Defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.Manchester City on the other hand also needed a win desperately so that they can be back to winning ways after a string of unfortunate drawn matches.

Victor Moses  wasn’t medically clear to compete,hence some changes in the lineup were expected.It was a great joy to see Kurt Zouma start after 14 months owing to a terrible Knee Injury.Nemanja Mátic paved the way for Ceśar Azpilicueta in the midfield and Pedro was back to his original position.

Manchester City also made a couple of changes.They fielded Vincent Kompany  and Fabian Delph into their squad.

The match was officiated by referee Mike Dean and was underway as per schedule at 8:00 pm GMT(00:30 pm IST).The match started with complete domination of Possession by Manchester City.City were taking their chances and were making a good effort to score only to be halted by a rock solid Chelsea Defence.

Chelsea were looking for a small mistake by Manchester City on which they could pounce on.That moment came in the 10th minute when Hazard,Pedro and Azpilicueta formed a dangerous Attacking combination.Azpilicueta squared a low pass onto Hazard ,which was elegantly and swiftly netted into the back of the net.Even a stooping header by Vincent Kompany and a flick off the gloves of Willy Caballero couldn’t prevent Hazard from claiming his 12th Premium League goal of the season.

Chelsea were 1-0 up and they knew that they could not afford any slip-ups otherwise they would end up in the same way they did the other night against Crystal Palace.A tragic mistake did happen in the 26th minute when Thibaut Courtois passed the ball unknowingly to David Silva whose shot was saved but only to be scored by Sergio Agüero off the rebound.

All Chelsea fans were taken aback and were in disbelief when this happened and so were the players but the game had to continue.

7 minutes later Fernandinho hanged out his foot and brought Pedro tumbling down inside the Penalty box which resulted in a penalty being awarded to Chelsea.

The penalty was taken by Hazard who was looking for the bottom right corner.It was a poor executed penalty as it was saved by Willy Caballero but it was then planted into the goal by Hazard off the rebound to claim his 13th Premier League goal of the season.

There were two more Manchester City attempts after this but they were pitched poorly into the hands of Thibaut Courtois.45 minutes ended in no time and Chelsea were in the lead with the scoreline reading 2-1.

In the 2nd half Antonio Conte made an immediate Substitution.Kurt Zouma was subbed out for Nemanja Mátic.This move made César Azpilicueta to revert back to Defending and Pedro was playing as a right wing back.

Manchester City had an amazing chance to equalise after the break when Kante caught David Silva late.Kevin De Bruyne hoisted the free kick towards the top right corner post which was then headed by Vincent Kompany only to hit the crossbar.

After this attempt the Manchester City line up failed to trouble the Chelsea Defence for quite some time.They were trying to get the ball through only to be cleared by the Chelsea defenders.

In the 71 st minute Diego Costa got run over by Vincent Kompany which resulted in a Chelsea free-kick.It was a great opportunity to increase our lead but David Luiz’s shot was cleared successfully by the Manchester City Wall.

In the 76th minute Chelsea were again looking for their 3rd goal as Hazard teed up with Fabregas near the Penalty box.Fabregas quickly found Pedro who immediately set up Hazard.Hazard on the verge of a hat-trick blasts it from 15 yards only to see it go over the cross bar.

Manchester City then gained possession but they were always let down by a Clinical Masterpiece of Defensive Play by the Chelsea Defenders.They were no where near to scoring a goal.

It was looking like an easy Chelsea win was about to come as Manchester City weren’t posing much of a threat.Suddenly in the 92nd minute Manchester City got a Corner Kick.The corner was swiftly taken and the ball was passed to an unmarked John Stones who was standing inside the 6 yard box.He tried to net it in but to his horror the ball went over the crossbar.Stones was filled with disbelief as were the other Manchester City players.

That was the last chance they had to equalise the match but Manchester City missed it.Soon the Match Referee Mike Dean blew the final whistle to stop play.It was Another Chelsea win and it ensures them a 7 point lead over 2nd placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea now need 6 wins out of the remaining 8 matches in order to etch their names on the Barclays Premier League Trophy.Their next opponents are AFC Bournemouth whom they will face on Saturday 8th April at The Vitality Stadium.
